2023: Umahi as solution to Nigeria's myriad of challenges - Lawmaker

Lawmaker Hon. Onu Nwonye (Aka Onne) a member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing Ohaozara West Constituency in reaction to the ongoing debate on whom from Igbo extraction among Senators Orji Uzo Kalu, Rochas Okoroacha or Governor David Umahi should fly the flag of APC during the 2023 Presidential Election.

The fearless and highly respected Lawmaker highlighted that the worst thing that can happen to this country is for a mediocre amongst the Igbos to be presented to fly the flag of APC come 2023.

He counseled Ndi-Igbo to ensure that a credible candidate of note whose track record of enviable feats are not in doubt is positioned for this important office to actualise the dream of Nigerians for a better Nigeria under the watch of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.

"We've been priding ourselves, that there will be a turn around and Nigeria passing through some kind of industrial revolution anytime an Igbo man mounts the saddle but woe betide us if we pick a charlatan, political scammer, people with complex and misfits or any of the greedy politicians without roadmap for development, track record of performance.

"The office of the President of Nigeria is a serious business and not meant for people who loves to credit to themselves cosmetic and over bloated projects that has no direct impact on the people," he said.

Hon. Nwonye maintained that if we must tell ourselves the truth,  It is only Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State that will make the difference in the governance of Nigeria should his track records and feats in Ebonyi are to be used as a criteria to judge.


"Let me emphasize, it is not just Ndi Igbo's pride but that of Nigeria for us to ensure that we present one of our best in the person of Govenor Umahi and forget about the likes of Senators Okoroacha, and Kalu who to me are pretenders and have nothing to offer so far the issue of a President of Igbo extraction is concerned," he stated.

He added, "I will not be of any support for us to present or elect a President in the mould of Dr. Jonathan  Goodluck who did nothing of note for us as a people and Nigeria in general.

"I therefore urges Ndi Igbo and entire Nigerians to rally round Governor Umahi in our common bid for the office of the President to make this country great once again."
