NATIONAL PANEL Reporters

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Peoples Democractic Party, PDP in Ebonyi, Chief Fred Udeogu says on Monday that over 85 per cent of the Executive members who worked under the Chairmanship of Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi are still intact with his party.

He made the statement at Salt Lake Hotels, Abakaliki after the state PDP stakeholders' meeting while briefing newsmen.

Udogu described as lies, Nwebonyi's claims to have pulled out all the PDP executives alongside other party members to the All Progressives Congresss, APC.

According to Udogu, "Nwebonyi has every good chance to tell lies and all the rights to be feeding the media-men with falsehood.

"We are aware of what happened today, about 85 per cent of them who were in charge as executive members of PDP with him came for this meeting and still in this hall now.

"And we are having close to 160 ward chairmen here. How come Nwebonyi boasting about pulling out with our party executives. He can't convince any of our party executives to move to the APC."

The Caretaker Chairman recalled that "when Govenor David Umahi defected to APC on November 18, 2020, no single of the National Assembly members nor any critical PDP stakeholder joined him to the ruling party at the centre."

He added that the governor as at then boasted he would make the PDP unworkable and unavailable in the state.

While enumerating challenges encountered in the state following the defection of Umahi to APC, the Ebonyi PDP Caretaker Chairman stated that, "violence was visited on our members and several court cases were clamped down on our party and its officials. Infact, our activities were constantly disrupted."

Udeogu further narrated that: "Governor Umahi commissioned Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, his political hireling and surrogate to undermine the activities of our party but today, we are happy and pleased to note that we welcome the latest development which is the withdrawal and resignation of Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi from PDP, thereby bringing to an end all the mechanizations which had hitherto created problems for our party and its teeming members in Ebonyi State."

He however, called the PDP faithfuls in the state to remain focused and united to working towards the party's victory come 2023 general elections.

The PDP Chairman urged Umahi to rethink violence that has been unleash on his members since his defection, saying the spate of politically motivated killings and destruction of properties across the state remained unacceptable.

He therefore urged the governor to stake steps to stern unwarranted violence in the young state.

NATIONAL PANEL Reporters gathered the presence of key stakeholders of the state including ex- Senate President and former  Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, Ex-Governor of the state and currently, a member representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Sen. Sam Egwu, the South East Zonal Vice Chairman of PDP, Chief Ali Odefa, the National Assembly members and other political big wigs from different parts of Ebonyi during the conference.
