Omeihukwu 1 of Ezza Nation decries illegal collection of licence from herbalists

*Emerges Ezza North LG Coordinator of NANTMP

The Prime Minister of Oriuzor Autonomous Community in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Chief Dr John Azuoba Nwokwu (aka Omeihukwu 1 of Ezza Nation) has condemned in a strong term the alleged illegal collection of licence and other financial levies from the herbalists by some suspected fraudsters in the disguise of the state government taskforce.

Chief Dr Nwokwu who emerged the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) in Ezza North LGA, made the declaration, Wednesday at his country home, Oriuzor while hosting the state leaders and members of the association following his appointment.

He called the state government and other relevant authourities to speed up action with the NANTMP leaders in Ebonyi to arrest those parading themselves as the government agents, saying that the complains coming from herbalists in the area on the operations of the suspected fraudsters are alarming.

Nwokwu noted that, his level of experience in treating patients with herbs and roots does not permit him to allow fraudulent agents to begin defrauding his members in the area.

He noted: "I have gone all round and the   only thing that I cannot treat is earth. It's only earth that I don't treat. Every other sicknesses like madness, stroke, diabetes, ashalma, convulsion, diarrhea, and all others, I treat them. I treat all sicknesses and I treat them perfectly.

"So, we are warning anyone connected with illegalities, those defrauding our members to stay clear. We call Ebonyi State government, Commissioner of Police, DSS to uncover, arrest such criminal minded people and bring them to book."

Nwokwu who officially joined NANTMP last year, described the association as a welcome development and cautioned any herbalist treating patients with herbs and roots to ensure he/she is gifted in the field, to avoid qack practices and deceptive tendencies.

He added, "those engaging on sharp practices are the evils among the herbal home doctors, the antics of the dubious and criminal minded individuals who claimed to be native doctors are projecting the real herbalists into a negative light. It is necessary that the leadership of this association in collaboration with governments and other relevant authourities begin to spell dooms on the bad eggs by arresting them to face the wrath of the law.

Omeihukwu promised to contribute to the success of the association's upcoming election in the state and expressed optimism that those who would take the mantle of leadership are going to bring sanity into Ebonyi NANTMP.

He pledged a continuous support to the government of Governor David Umahi as he called all and sundry to join the governor's next level movement in considering his developmental strides while in office.

He also advised Igbo leaders to unite voices by having a consensus candidate from the southeast geopolitical zone to run for Presidency in 2023.

In the same vein, the woman leader of NANTMP and Eminent Ambassador of Peace in Ebonyi, Chief Dr. Stella Amadi and the immediate past Coordinator of the state, Rev Dr Samuel Ezenyi asked the members of association to stop any payment of money, henceforth, no levy is approved yet including the renewal of licence till the state election being conducted in line with their constitution.

The duo urged their members to always alert them and other leaders of the NANTMP in the area any moment, the alleged fraudulent agents came to exort them of their money for license or other levies on herbal practices.

NATIONAL PANEL gathered that some members of the association complained bitterly about forceful measures applied by the suspected fradulent agents while allegedly exorting them of their money for license because of their traditional medicine trades.
