Ebonyi Rep-member to reconstruct roads, build 23 ultra-modern facilities

Member representing Afikpo North-South Federal Constituency, Chief Idu Igariwey has promised to build twenty three (23) utra-modern toilet facilities across his constituency to address the poor sanitation and open defecation and as well to embark on reconstruction of roads in the area.

The Federal lawmaker said odour emanating from  local toilet pits located in various playgrounds in the constituency were very disturbing and could expose the people to diseases.

The Lawmaker stated this in his Afikpo hometown while addressing members of his media team.

He expressed concern over the  poor sanitation in the constituency as a result of the ordour oozing out from the public toilet pits in the area.

"We are going to build 23 toilet facilities in this constituency to address poor sanitation here. You can see that there are no toilet facilities in many residential houses.

"Many people go to toilet at Ogo playgrounds and ordour from those public toilets are very offensive and pose threats to public health

"We have resolved to address this age-long problem and we are going to build 23 modern toilet facilities in our constituency. We will start it this year by God's grace and we believe that they  will go along way in solving this problem", he said.

NATIONAL PANEL reports Igariwey had constructed Ahia Ekuku/Mgbom/Amaizu road last year, and also stated that the road which was very deplorable and impassable, was constructed to save the users and people living around the area from  untold hardship occasioned by its deplorable nature.

He opined that he had to use rigid concrete  pavement to construct the road because of its nature to ensure durability.

He announced that  Letu road in Edda, Afikpo South local government area and  two other roads in the two local governments that make up the constituency would also be constructed by him with rigid concrete pavements, adding that the roads have been captured in this year’s budget which has been by the National Assembly.

He said the deplorable Okogeri road in Ehugbo linking Ukpa and Ngodo communities in the area and another road in Amasiri community  have also  been captured in this year’s budget through his intervention and assured that he would also  construct the roads to ameliorate the sufferings of the road users.

The Federal Lawmaker also disclosed that  Government college Owutu Edda, Afikpo South would receive his attention and that will construct town hall in Amasiri  and Akpoha where the people will be meeting to discuss their affairs.

He assured that he would do more life touching projects in the constituency apart from the water projects he has done in Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytecnic, Unwanna, Ukpa in Ehugbo  and other social amenities he has provided for the constituents to address their problems.

On the electricity problem in his Afikpo hometown, the former Local Government Chairman who expressed sadness on the situation, described it as unfortunate.

He blamed Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for not living up to expectations.

"The problem of power supply in Ehugbo is from EEDC. It is their duty to energize the area of their jurisdiction including Ehugbo but they are not doing that. If you go to other places in the country, all the Power Distribution Companies there are doing well. They are providing transformers and  installing lights but our own Distribution  is not doing well", he said.

Igariwey,  however assured that he would get transformers to some communities in the constituency for power supply.

The Parliamentarian who noted that he has sponsored bills and motions on the floor of the House to better the lots of his constituents and the nation at large,  announced that his three new  bills were among the 19 bills the House of Representatives will soon review with a view to passing them into laws.
