Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Ebonyi State Chapter on Thursday elected Comrade James Obasi Alina of Action Alliance (AA) as the new state Chairman.

The election conducted by the National leadership of IPAC under the watch of Leonard Nzenwe of AAC with other officials from Abuja and Southeastern states was held at the headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital.

This followed the dissolution of the  leadership of the former caretaker Chairman, Comrade Samuel Nchita Akahite and his committee members in the state.

Other officials elected were Udume Evo Samuel of ADC as the state Deputy Chairman, Nchita Samuel Akahite of ADP as the Secretary and Kate Ohakam of APM- Deputy Secretary.

While Chief Ricky Okorouka of APGA emerged as the Treasurer, Austin Nweze Ituma of SDP - Publicity Secretary, Chief Ogbonnaya Igboke of APC - Organising/Welfare Secretary, Nkwuda Sunday of YPP - Financial Secretary and Idoma  Samuel of PRP - Legal Adviser.

Earlier in his remark, the National Chairman of IPAC, Leonard Nzenwe,  stated that in Nigeria today,  only 18 registered political parties are still the members of the Council, following the deregisteration of 74 political parties on February 6, 2020 by INEC.

"As am speaking, the 18 political parties formed IPAC leadership in the country. We are aware that the 74 political parties are still in the court with INEC. They are not in the court with IPAC. They are in the court with INEC. You can't be a member of IPAC unless you are in a registered political party. But if you are in any political party not already registered by INEC, you can't be a member of IPAC. This should be made clear. If in Court or INEC resolves to re-enlist the 74 deregistered political parties, it means that they will not come back to IPAC, but INEC should re-register them to become authentic  members of IPAC," he cleared.

He added: "As I speak, the circle of the judgement has not been accomplished and the 74 deregistered political parties are not the members of IPAC but only a political association and have not exhausted their matters with INEC.

"It should be clear because we are standing on the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  also on the mandate and authourity which INEC has given to political parties in the country.

"I hope this is very clear, if you go about tommorow, and any of them begins to tell you, he is a member of IPAC, just tell him that the rule is that any political party not spelt out or established according to the political system in Nigeria, and overseen by INEC, is not a member of IPAC

"Having made this clear, any individual, entity that came and claim to say that he is a member of INEC should be disregarded, because there are certain individuals that have been going about claiming the membership of IPAC whereas they  are not."

The National Chairman however, congratulated the new executives of IPAC and advised them to lead by example in the state immediately after their inauguration by the INEC official.

Interacting with newsmen, the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Inter Party and Labour Matters, Comrade Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor commended the peaceful atmosphere witnessed during the election and charged the new officials to carry all the members along.

She said IPAC has no factions in Ebonyi State, and expressed optimism that the new officials would make the members proud.

Meanwhile, the new State Chairman, Comrade Obasi James Alina in his acceptance speech expressed joy over his election, appreciated the national IPAC leadership and the members and also commended INEC roles to have a reformed council in the political system of the country.

Alina called for the cooperation of IPAC members to effect positive change in the state, and also extolled the leadership of Governor David Umahi whom he said, has been supportive to every good course of IPAC with his artilleries.

"Most importantly, I thank the government of our dear state, our workaholic governor who has always supported every good course of IPAC in the state.

"In the same vein, I must state categorically, that the impact of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter Party and Labour Matters, Comrade Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, has been so remarkable. When you came in 2018 as the first female Chairman of the council in the state, you so much transformed the Council and left indelible legacies that have given birth to the "New and Reformed IPAC" which we have  today in Ebonyi State.  Thank you for laying a very good foundation for us to consolidate. I believe I will continue to receive benefit of your experience and wisdom," he stated.

Some of the elected officials, Engr. Ogbonnaya Igboke of APC being the new state IPAC's Organising/Welfare Secretary, Comrade Nchita Samuel Akahite of ADP - the new Secretary of the Council, among others expressed happiness for their election and assured of contributing to the success of the council in the state.

NATIONAL PANEL gathered the presence of the Chairman of Residential Electoral Commission, REC in Ebonyi State, Dr Chukwuemeka Joseph Chukwu, who expressed satisfaction on the electoral process of the Council in the state.
