Massive development: FG describes Umahi as evident pride of South East

A special envoy and delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education and Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), Abuja has lauded Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, describing him as an evident pride of South East region on massive development.

The Federal delegation made the statement yesterday when visited the foremost Ebonyi State Vocational College, King David Scholars' County, Ochudo-Centenary City, Abakaliki.

The group was welcomed by Director General of the College, who is also the Special Assistant to the Governor on Vocational Education, Princess Adaeze Nwaji, at the Conference Hall of the College.

The head of the group, Mr. Ben Bem Goong, said: "Governor Umahi is evidently the pride of South-East and a national trailblazer in vocational and technical skill acquisitions, human empowerment, infrastructural development and quality education."

The visit was a glean from the Ministry of Education and the BASDA Agencies to supervise and understand the activities of the state government with the Universal Basic Education and BASDA funds.

Mr.  Goong stated that Ebonyi State Vocational College has remained the best they have visited so far in their tour to schools and colleges in the country, and further, lauded Governor Umahi for effective management of the UBEB and BESDA funds allocated to the State. 

He also recommended that every state in Nigeria should emulate and replicate what Umahi is doing in vocational education sector. 

"The level of development so far at the college depicts glaring light at the end of the tunnel, as Ebonyi has taken the lead and a right step in the right direction, as only the future will tell the level of impact this life changing Institution would bring to humanity," he said.

He  however, called on other South-Eastern Governors and their colleagues in other parts of Nigeria to emulate Ebonyi State by venturing into vocational education, as that would savage the dying local and national economies.

The team with the special Assistant to the governor on vacational education toured the automobile and foundry workshop, creative art and media department of printing and publishing, cosmetology and beauty, fashion design and ICT departments.

The FG delegation marvelled with what the development in the college especially the heavy equipment at the automobile and foundry ranging from four post car lift, two post car lift, Automotive Tyre remover, automotive wheel balancing machine, 500liters air compressor, automotive oil changer machine, hydronic jacks, digital alignment machine, floor jacks.

They therefore, retirated that the Federal Ministry of Education is ever ready to partner and support the College at all times, and also appreciated the state government for the wonderful works  and suggested that the government plan towards the advancement of the vocational colleges at the zonal and local government levels.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the college, Princess Nwaji, appreciated the delegation immensely for the visit. 

She narrated the success stories of the College and as well notified them of the challenges of the College.

In furtherance, she applauded Governor Umahi for his relentless efforts and avowed commitment toward ensuring that the college becomes the best in South-East and Nigeria at large by remaining the epicenter of capacity building and human empowerment. 

She stated that all the documents,  both executive and legislative ones, needed for the establishment and administration of Ebonyi State Vocational College have been made available by the state government.

Moreso, she pointed out that all the structures, installations and state of the art facilities currently at the college especially the ultra-modern automobile workshop were provided by Ebonyi State government assisted by  BASDA and UBEB; as a matter of the fact, the bilateral and public-private partnership of the College have not started yielding.
