Set up against Ebonyians over VC post in AE-FUNAI uncovered

An independent investigation has uncovered unholy plans by the outgoing Vice Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Prof Chinedum Nwajuba, his brother the Minister of State for Education and their cohorts to once again deny an Ebonyian the opportunity of becoming the third Vice Chancellor of the only Federal University in Ebonyi State.

Reliable information revealed that the outgoing Vice Chancellor and his brother have concluded plans to use their positions and influence to screen out over 25 ebulliently qualified Ebonyi Professors who indicated interest in the vice chancellorship position.

The sources further alleged that apart from collecting huge sum of money from their preferred candidates, the Nwajubas in their ambitious efforts to control and make the institution their private business, are using their position as VC and Minister respectively to compel the panel to shortlist only ten non Ebonyi professors who are loyal to them from where three will be considered for possible appointment as next Vice Chancellor of AE-FUNAI.

Pundits advocated for fairness and merit in selection of who becomes the VC Chancellor. They as well expressed confidence that if merit is applied, Ebonyi Professors will have no hurdles in emerging as next FUNAI VC. The people kicked against Nwajubas handpicking method which they argued was a calculated attempt to make sure that qualified Ebonyian was not given a voice in any decision making body of the university.

Some stakeholders and youth leaders in the State who spoke on the matter on condition of anonymity expressed dissatisfaction with the recent move stressing that they would resist such plan and ensure that  Ebonyians are not again denied the opportunity of occupying the AE-FUNAI VC position for the third time. They however threatened to mobilize other stakeholders, youth, women, students and even lecturers in all higher institutions in the State to shutdown the school, led protest to National Assembly, Aso Rock and other places until the right thing was done.

The respondents who noted that Ebonyi State parades most finest professors in Nigeria, called on Ebonyi State government, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Minister of Education and President Buhari to intervene and save the citadel of knowledge from the hands of Nwajubas. They added that for AE-FUNAI to develop faster and achieve the objectives of its establishment, an Ebonyi born Professor must be allowed to became the Vice Chancellor.
