The pan-Igbo socio-cultural and political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared its support for moves made by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and join the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party at the centre against 2023 general elections.

Umahi has been reported to have told  the PDP leaders at their meeting in Abuja, on Tuesday, about his concluded plan to leave the party over its refusal to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the South East region of Nigeria since 1999, the country returned to democracy.

But the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Chief Chuks Ibegbu, has described Governor Umahi’s planned move to APC as “legitimate.” on phone interview with our newsman.

"PDP will be unkind not to zone the 2023 presidency to the South East that has suffered a lot for it", the Publicity Secretary said.

In a related development, it was gathered that Umahi’s plan to join APC would be officially communicated to the party soon.

This according to the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, the party is ready to welcome Governor Umahi.

Nabena said: “Our doors are wide open to receive all Nigerians who meet the requirements laid down by the constitution to join our party.

“For now, there has been no official communication either from him (Governor Umahi) or his people.
