Ebonyi Forum of Federal Board Members have  commended Governor David Umahi for 'taking a bold step against PDP's discriminatory leadership to the detriment of the Southeastern region of Nigeria' by defecting from the party to the ruling APC in the country.

Interacting with the NATIONAL PANEL, the acting Chairman of the forum/Commissioner representing Ebonyi State in the Federal Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, Hon. Patrick Mgbebu described Governor Umahi as a man who has the interest of Igbo nation at heart.

He stated that Igbo nation has been suffering marginalization introduced by PDP government since 1999, when Nigeria returned to democracy.

The Chairman said, it was the PDP's brutal refusal to zone its Presidential ticket to the South East zone in 2023 after 20 years that necessitated Umahi's defection to APC.

He noted that APC has come to end all the tribal syndromes that bedeviled the PDP's led administration, pointing that the national ruling party (APC) was founded by Nigerian political leaders from different regions for the unification of the national interest for a better development in the country.

Mgbebu said that "Umahi's defection will turn Ebonyi State as strong hold of APC and through him more Governors from South East will soon join, making it easy for the party in 2023 elections."

On his part, the acting Secretary of the  forum, Hon. James Nwogha Nwite (JP), being a member Federal Board of Director/Chairman Board Establishment,  Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority eulogized Governor Umahi for taking a decision to join APC.

Hon. Nwite said that Governor Umahi's defection to the party has brought joy to Ebony APC Members in particular and South East zone in general.

He however, called all the APC elected officials and those occupying appointive positions from South East zone who might have felt bad against Umahi  for not consulting them before joining the party,  to close rank as the governor's coming to the APC is for the best interest of Igbo nation not for his personal interest.

Nwite also observed that, "for the past 20 years of PDP government not even Vice President has ever been zoned to South East  and therefore, the PDP continued to criminally marginalize Ndigbo for their own political  interest; and that is what annoyed Governor Umahi to leave the party and join the party that can protect the interest of all Nigerians."

The Federal Board member maintained that the only political cabals who will remain with the PDP family till 2023 are those trading on sectionalism, the enemies of equitable distribution of powers and the promoters of bad governance.
