The political intrigues currently ongoing in Ebonyi State continued as all arrangements are said to have been concluded for the anticipated decamping of the Governor of the state, Chief David Umahi from the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

In the last 72 hours, several meetings have been held in Abuja, Abakaliki and Uburu, the country home of Chief Umahi to fine-tune all strategies aimed at giving the governor a smooth sail into the APC.

The Governor on Saturday night hosted the Chairmen of the 13 local government areas in the state at his Uburu home, where they endorsed his move.

Governor Umahi later held another meeting with 23 out of the 24members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly  where our reporter gathered that he briefed the lawmakers of his decision to move to the APC.

The later meeting which lasted about 1.45AM was held at the New Governor’s Lodge in Abakaliki.

At the the Governor’s Lodge meeting, 15 out of the 23-members in attendance, including the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru, were said to have endorsed the move of the Governor to the APC, while six members declined and opted to remain in the PDP.

The members of the state Assembly who refused to yield to the governor’s request to decamp with him to the APC are: Hon. Victor Aleke (Ebonyi North West), Hon. Okechukwu Ali (Ishielu North), Hon. Chris Usulor (Ezza South), Hon. Franca Chinyere Okpo (Abakaliki North), Hon. Arinze Lucas Chukwu (Ishielu South) and Hon. Chidi Ejem (Afikpo South East).

Our reporter also gathered that the Deputy Leader of the House and member representing Afikpo North West State Constituency, Hon. Ogbonnaya Ikoro abstained themselves from following any of the groups, while the member representing Ivo state constituency, Oliver Osi requested to consult with his godfather, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Odefa Obasi Odefa is currently out of the country and so his position of the governor’s plan to decamp could not be ascertained.

As part of greater plan aimed at creating a fertile ground for the governor to decamp to the APC, our correspondent equally gathered that the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru has been briefed to give an ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership to zone its 2023 Presidential ticket to the Southeast geopolitical zone of the country, without which Ebonyi State PDP will migrate into APC which has allegedly zoned its Presidential ticket to the Southeast.

The Governor in a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesman, Francis Nwaze has said that “If for any reason, Governor Umahi wishes to leave Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it will be officially communicated and can never be a product from rumour mongers.”

Many political pundits in the state see the governor's statement that he “officially” communicated his exit from the PDP if need be as a sign that he would be leaving the party.

More updates still uploading.
