At atleast, eighteen Honourable members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly have arrived at the state Speaker's quarters, the venue of an emergency press conference by the lawmakers.

The lawmakers who were all elected under the platform of PDP during the 2019 general elections have begun converging to speak on the continuous reports trialing their alleged plan to  defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

NATIONAL PANEL gathered that the twenty four lawmakers were expected to  be in the meeting since Sunday evening towards convincing the members to accept the defection move in line with the state governor, David Nweze Umahi's request.

We learnt that at the meeting which lasted till this Monday morning, some of the lawmakers had refused to join the defecting members of the House to  APC.

Fom all indications, the number of the lawmakers who have arrived for the press conference has showed that the majority of the  state House members may have accepted the defection move.

It could be recalled that on last Saturday, we gathered that  Governor David Umahi had allegedly perfected his defection to the ruling party at the centre, APC, after his several meetings with President Muhammad Buhari and other party stalwarts in Abuja on Friday.

Still, the Governor was reported to have met with the lawmakers and urged them to decamp to APC ahead of his formal defection on Saturday, after returning from Abuja.

The defection rumour strengthened by a statement issued by the member representing Ezza South/Ikwo federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, also elected under APC platform by congratulating Governor Umahi for defecting to his party, calling other southeast governors in the opposition party to join suit.

At this moment, the lawmakers are seated waiting the state Speaker, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to formally start the the press conference.
