The Chairman South East Governor's Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr.David Umahi has called on Igbos across the country to remain peaceful wherever they are, and not to join any protest as the #EndSARS protest that was originally peaceful has been highjacked by hoodlums.

Governor David Umahi made the call while addressing the youths of Ohaozara local government area of the state during his visit to assess the police facilities that were burnt down at Okposi and Uburu communities under the guise of ENDSARS protest.

Umahi who was visibly unhappy at the level of destructions on the two police stations by hoodlums urged the youths to always be at the vanguard of peace by protecting both public and private facilities located in their areas.

The governor said that he has established contacts with good leaders all over the country, particularly, from the Western part of the country with full assurance that the Igbos were safe and well protected, described the unity and oneness of the country as sacrosanct, assuring other ethnics nationality within the South East Zone to go about their normal businesses as their safety was well guaranteed.

He urged the Igbos to pull out from the protest as the constitutional and peaceful protests have been highjacked by hoodlums.

His words," I have spoken with good leaders from the west and they have assured all our people in the western part of this country that they are safe, and that we should disregard any empty threat from 'unscrupulous element who claimed to be from very peaceful ethnic group in Yoruba extraction, but, live in London, to threaten the Igbos in Lagos.

"It is a mere demonstration of madness. If he wants to lead the war against Igbos, let him come down from London and lead the war.

"I want to assure every ethnic group, living in the South East, including the Yorubas to go about their normal businesses peacefully. If there is any threat to any of them they should immediately let our governors and security agencies know. We have been walking round the clock to make sure that no ethnic group in South East is threatened.

"There are criminals everywhere, the few incidences we have, we have directed our youths to fish out  the perpetrators, so that we can handle them and decisively deal with them.

"As Igbos we believe in one Nigeria. We believe in the oneness of this country.  We believe in a country where justice, equity and fairness will thrive,we believe that together we are bigger. We are better and we are stronger.

"So, I want to appeal to our people everywhere in this country, do not join protest again. Do not allow anyone to label this peaceful protest that happened, but, presently highjacked by the hoodlums, an Igbo affair.

"Let me thank the Northern governors and leaders, the Western governors and leaders, the South South governors and all the leaders in this country. It is a trying moment, and we should toe the part of our President.

"Mr. President has spoken in the oneness of this country. He has spoken to encourage us. He has commiserated with the families of those who lost their dear ones including the security agencies. We got to listen to him and give him the opportunity and time to address the peaceful and constitutional demands of the #EndSARS protesters," he stated.

Umahi was accompanied on the assessment tour by the security Chiefs and some top government functionaries among others.
