Ebonyi State reopens schools

Ebonyi State Government has reopened schools of all categories except nursery sections after long closure ochestrated by COVID-19.


The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima stated this while addressing Journalists in Abakaliki the State capital after monitoring of schools.

Mr. Chima said children are vunerables when it comes to pandemic and warned that any school that fails to obey COVID-19 rules will be sanctioned.


"We know that children are vunerables and cannot protect themselves, heavy sanction awaits any school that violates COVID-19 protocols, at the same time, rewards also awaits schools that shall observe the rules", he said.

He advised parents and guardians to equip their children and wards with personal protective equipments before they leave for school.

"Parents must equip their children and wards with Personal Protective equipments in order avoid contracting COVID-19 and other infectious diseases", he added.

He therefore called on parents and guardians to release their Children to school as State Ministry of Education will be on regular monitoring to ensure that their children are protected.
 
One of the Principals in schools visited, Ebonyi State University Secondary School, Mr Fidelis Ozibo said more classes has been built to ensure that Pupils are well spaced in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.

"Our students are well spaced from each other, as I talk to you, classes for Senior students have been converted to Junior classes to ensure enough space", he said.
One of the pupils in Holy Ghost Foundation Schools, Miss Uka Chisom expressed happiness over the reopening of schools.

" I am very happy that we have finally returned to school after long time of COVID-19 era", she expressed.

It would be recalled that Ebonyi Government had earlier on eighteenth September, 2020  announced the resumption of schools in the State.
