Ebonyi: Fear grips community as hoodlums kill policeman

Ndiakpurata Ndiebor Igbeagu Community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is currently in fear over the police officer  killed by unknown hoodlums on last Wednesday.

NATIONAL PANEL gathered that there  were combative gunshots at a new Police post in Ndiakpurata Ndiebor Igbeagu Community around 12:45am on that day.

However, on the following day, the villagers and passers-bye were reportedly saw pools of blood at the newly police duty post in the village along Ogoja Express Road.

Briefing newsmen, the village head, Mr. Chinweike Alieze, said, the situation has put the community members into fears, saying that many have taken up to their heels for the safety of their lives.

Alieze said, on that fateful day in the midnight, a series   of gunshots was released to the extent he could not summon courage to come out even though he was on drugs.

At the morning time,  on the following day, he traced the causes of the gunshots with other villagers who discovered a pool of blood at a police post on the main road.

Further investigation according to Alieze revealed that unknown armed robbers engaged on gun attack with the policemen at the duty post in the village.

The Village head also said, story spreaded then, remained that a posted  police officer to the area was shot dead.

"Not too long,  security operatives landed in our village and confirmed that a policeman was shot dead by unknown gunmen including one of the hoodlums",  
Mr. Alieze said.


Our correspondents who went to the scene of the incident gathered that many homes were deserted with doors locked up, as the residents were said, running for the safety of their lives because of the fears of the unknown.

"Up till now, our people are confused. Our houses, shops are shotdown, deserted and even to go to farm or market, many are scared, because of the fears of the unknown. Our villagers are in tears because of the death of the police man. The police man was a good man, and indeed, our people cherish his lifestyle for he was very generous and friendly to everybody.

"Meanwhile, we are assuring Police, to assist them to   fish out the perpetrators and when arrested they shall   be brought to book", the village head said. 

The people living within the place, testified the goodness of the deceased policeman,  and called the relevant authourities to device means to uncover the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others.

Confirming the incident from the state Police mouth-piece, DSP Mrs. Loveth Odah, said, she was yet to find out while filing this report. "Please, let  me find out", she said.
