Ebonyi Assembly holds valedictory session for Late Tobias Okwuru

Ebonyi State House of Assembly held on Thursday, a valedictory session in the honour of Late Chief Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru (KSM), the pioneer Chief Wip of the House and former member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency in the Green Chambers.


During the valedictory session held at the Hallow Chambers of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Nkaleke Road in Abakaliki, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru described Late Chief Tobias Okwuru as a typified generosity in all his dealings.


This was contained in a statement issued and made available to newsmen by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Comrade Leo Ekene Oketa.

In the statement, Speaker Nwifuru in his sober sensation said, "in times of such realistic mystery, we are laden with questions as though nature owes us satisfactory answers. The demise of a loved one or parent, let alone an amiable personality like Ali Ezza, strikes an acute nolstagia in us, but casting our minds back to the many footprints he left in the sands of time, we experience soothing memories that no one can steal.”

Further, the Speaker in solemn tranquility  heralded litany of commiserations from both serving and former members of the House.

“Ali Ezza typified generosity in all his dealings. He served humanity with unflinching selflessness and commitment. Let us be consoled by his admirable legacies. We pray that the Good Lord whom it pleased to call him back to Himself at this time will grant you and all of us, the fortitude to bear the huge loss", Nwifuru said.

Also speaking, the Leader of the House and member representing Ezza North West Constituency,  Hon. Victor Uzoma Chukwu described the deceased former lawmaker as ‘an era in Ezza clan.’

Chukwu said: "The man lying here is a brother, a friend, a father and a leader of my clan. His death is a huge loss. Tob was not just a politician, he was an era in my clan. He distinguished himself while he journeyed here on mother earth. A lot of people were mentored by him and I am certain that his exit has created a vacuum that no one can fill.” 

The statement noted that many other members of the 6th Ebonyi State House of Assembly including the Deputy Leader, Hon. Kingsley Ogbonna Ikoro, Hon. Christian Usulor and Hon. Barr. Friday Linus Nwuhuo rained eulogies on their deceased former colleague  whom they said he was simply a colossus. 

On his part, the Chief  Whip of the House,  Hon.  Humphrey Nwuruku commended Late Chief Tobias Okwuru, for have served his constituency meritoriously at the National Assembly, and as the pioneer Chief Whip of Ebonyi State House of Assembly.


The valedictory session according to the statement was indeed a hallowed ground where former distinguished principal officers and members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly who served with Ali Ezza and the former National Assembly members stood in awe of his lifeless body, while reflecting on the sensational life of Mgboigwe! 

It stated that some of them who graced the session included Hon. Chief Lazarus Ogbee, Hon. Enyi C. Enyi, Rt. Hon. Onwe S. Onwe, Hon. Ray Akanwa and a host of others. Amongst very many positions he held, Late Chief Tobias Okwuru represented Ikwo/Ezza-South Federal Constituency in the 7th House of Representatives from 2011 till 2015. 

The statement recalled that Ali Ezza will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, October 30, 2020 at his country home, Ohatekwe, Amudo Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It stated that he was 59 years of age, praying for his gentle soul to find rest in the bosom of the Lord, Amen.
