The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, has ordered for a full-scaled investigation of the reported case of the two persons killed at Ukwu-achi in Idembia village in Ndiebor Ishieke community of Ebonyi Council Area by unknown assailants.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident has been keeping the affected Community into fear as many residents within the area ran out to avoid being nabbed by the men of Police while searching out for the arrest of the perpetrators.
The killing saga took place at Ukwu-Achi Ishieke, very close to Ezza North and along Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway and some arrested were allegedly mostly the innocent indigenes.
Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odah, said, she was yet to get the full details surrounding the matter, promised to reply to our correspondent.
“I don’t have information about the said clash but the Commissioner of Police and I are planning to go to the scene to ascertain the situation.
Relatively, a release by the Police Command signed by the state police mouthpiece, quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Maku ordering for an investigation into the matter to commence without delay.
The statement reads: ”The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Command, CP Philip Sule Maku, has condemned the attack on Fulani Herdsmen Camp at Ukwuachi Forest Ishieke in Ebonyi LGA of the state, which resulted to the death of two (2) persons one Adamu Ibrahim ‘m’ 7 years and Jubril Ibrahim ‘m’ 15years leaving two (2) others critically injured, who are currently receiving treatment at AE-Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.
“One Ado Ibrahim, a Fulani herdsman, who reported at Ishieke Division stated that the victims are his grandchildren and that the attack took place at their camp in the aforementioned area while the children were sleeping after cow grazing on the 28th September 2020 by 9 pm.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police who undertook a tour to the area has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter with a view to arresting the perpetrators who fled the scene immediately after the incident.
“He also urges the general public especially herders to remain calm and not to embark on any reprisal attack as the Command under his watch will live no stone on a turn for the interest of justice.”
In the same vein, the traditional ruler of Ndiebor Ishieke Autonomous Community waiting for his staff office from the state government, HRH Eze Patrick Alo confirmed that unknown armed robbers killed two Fulani-herders at Ukwa-Achi and his community people have expressed anger on the new development following the good relationship between the duo.
He said: "As am talking talking to you, you can see that, the Fulani herders grazing in front of my compound. This means that Ishieke people have no problems with Fulani-herders. We have our own cattle, although, we graze differently but we have no problems with the Fulani-herders over 15 years they came to our community.
"We are begging that the innocent people should not be arrested to suffer for what they didn't cause, rather a serious investigation should be carried out by the relevant authourities to bring the perpetrators into a book. I Know government knows best ways to investigate and bring the perpetrators into a book.
"For now, my people are in the police net but those people are not the perpetrators of this killings. The security men should rather be more at alert in the grassroot areas, not to start arresting the poor and innocent citizens when security problems erupted.
"For the meantime, I will only tell you that Ishieke people have no misunderstanding with Fulani-herders within the community. The recent incident remains unusual. I called the appropriate authorities to employ their utmost wisdom to handle the problems on the board. Those people that attacked and killed these people are only but the unknown armed robbers. And it is obvious that Ishieke people are the most hardworking people in Ebonyi State. Farming, they are doing well. Business, we don't go back. Politics, nevertheless. We are most accommodative and the Fulani-herders can bear us witness", he said.
An attempt to interact with the Fulani-herders grazing their cattle infront of the the Royal father's palace, one of them said, "since we come to this place, Idembia Ishieke, nobody had ever attacked us. This na the first time but nobody knows where our enemies are coming from, because we are in peace with Ishieke people. We dey rear our cows here without seeing trouble everyday."
