Abakaliki U-C tournament: Victorious FC beats Wippers with one

The Victorious Football Club, Wednesday, later beat the Wippers with one score in a unity cup tournament which was flagged off by the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Security and Utility in Abakaliki Capital City, Hon. Nchekwube Anarkor.

The football competition won by Victorious guys with one goal scored by Kingsley Ugochukwu was heavily contested by the Wipper FC but the latter ended up getting none till the whole chance exhausted.

Though, October this year, has been slated for another tournament with a special arrangement in the process by the peace-building security aide and lover of sports, Hon. Anarkor Nchekwube, popularly known as CHINACO.

Anarkor on  Wednesday made this known while flagging off the unity cup tournament for the Abakaliki urbanites, believing that sporting activities can help in the fight against crimes and other vices in the society.

He told newsmen at Model Urban Secondary School, Okpaugwu in Abakaliki Capital City, that the football competition first featured Victorious and Wipper football clubs to build peace and unity among the urbanites, and to enlightening youths the need to shun indulging into crime activities such as cultism, kidnapping, drug abuse and armed robbery.

The security aide condemned the way youths are engaging into crimes and however, warned them to shun such attitude for the betterment of their lives as crimes cannot pay any good than bad.

He noted that his aim of initiating the tournament was to enhance the busy and focus of youths especially to harness their talent  and admonished them to perform optimally to achieve the purpose of the exercise and assured of giving the needed support to widen their scope in the next tournament coming by  October to accommodate the entire capital city to continue boosting the spirit of sportsmanship and bridging the gap of enemity in the area.

"There is nothing that unites youths like sports because it encompasses every aspect of life.

"I am SA to governor on security and utility, people will be wondering what does security has to do with sports. But I must tell you that 95% crimes are being committed by youths and when you didn't engage them they will engage themselves. So, I initiated this so that our youths will be busy. Many people because of this tournament can go far. I have connection in some many countries where people can go for sports if they are performing well.

"This is part of the thing to harness their talent so that our youths will not be wasted because idle mind is the devil workshop. That is the inspiration of our governor so that our people can be carried along", Anarkor said.


He enjoined the youths to take the exercise seriously as it will go a long way to improve their lifestyle.

Further, the Special Assistant to the state governor on Internal Security and Utility, Ebonyi South Zone,  Hon. Chika Nwangele described the exercise as a welcome development and attributed the engagement of youths in a sports activities as a way peace and unity can be easily championed.

He expressed optimism over the large turnout for the exercise, lauding Governor David Nweze Umahi whom he said, his administration has geared towards crimes free in Ebonyi State, believing that many youths will turn a new leave through the tournament.

Nwangele pledged support to ensure that the set objective of the exercise is achieved, adding that Governor Umahi out of his magnanimity will assist the youths to achieve the desired goals.

He applauded the organizers of the football competition as he noted, the exercise will bring togetherness, peace, love and unity, urging them to continue to support the programmes and policies of the state government at all time.
