Council Polls: Barr Sunday Nwankwo Emerges APC Standard Bearer For Ikwo LGA

Barr Sunday Nwankwo has been elected to fly the APC flag in July 20, Local Government Area election in Ebonyi State.


Nwankwo, who is the incumbent Chairman of Ikwo LGA was elected in APC delegate primary election held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Ikwo Council headquarters, Onuebonyi Echara, witnessed large turn out APC faithfuls in the area.


Barr. Nwankwo polled 97 out of the 98 accredited delegates at the Election.

Declaring the result, the returning officer, Hon. Elijah Okwu Oko Udu and the Secretary of electoral Committee, Hon. Mrs. Ann Aligwe said that Barr Sunday Nwankwo pulled a total of 97 Votes out of 98 accredited votes and hereby returned elected as the APC candidate for Ikwo LGA in the 2024 Local Government election in the state.

He appreciated APC members and Stakeholders of Ikwo Local Government Area for their overwhelming support to APC government in the State led by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and for their endorsement of the Council Boss for second term in office.

In his address after he was declared winner of the primary election, Hon. Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo expressed his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt Hon. Bldr Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, acknowledging the governor's role in fostering smooth and distinctive leadership across Ebonyi. He praised the Governor's leadership strides, which he credited for bringing ease and progress to every corner of  Ebonyi and in Ikwo Noyo Clan.

Barr. Nwankwo pledged to build on the achievements of his first term and to strive for the betterment of the entire Ikwo Noyo Clan. The successful primary election reflects the community's strong support for Nwankwo's leadership and his vision for continued development and unity in Ikwo.
Delegates and voters from the twenty political wards in Ikwo gathered at Onuebonyi Echara, venue of the primary election to support Hon. Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo's bid for a second term as Executive Chairman of the Council. The event was marked by overwhelming support for Hon. Sunday Basil Nwankwo, which highlights a sense of reconsolidation and togetherness within the  Council.

Recall that Barr Sunday Nwankwo had earlier been repeatedly, endorsed by the State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his term in the office, which made the party to return him unopposed.
