Why I joined APC - Obinna Nwachukwu

By Celestine Okeh, Abakaliki

PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the 2023 general Election, Dr Obinna Nwachukwu, said, his determination to join the All Progressives Congress APC, was predicated on the overwhelming performance of the state Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in less than one year into his administration, citing the welfare of workers, improved health care delivery, infrastructure, revamping the Education sector and open door policy of his administration among other things as indices of his judgement.

Dr Nwachukwu stated this on Tuesday, at the state APC Secretariat, ICC Abakaliki, when he led over one thousand supporters and loyalists to officially defect from the people's Democratic party PDP, to the All Progressives Congress APC.

He commended Governor Nwifuru for his dedication to improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other key sectors in Ebonyi State, adding that governor Nwifuru's vision and leadership is the best platform to continue driving progress and development in the state.

Nwachukwu expressed his gratitude to the APC Chairman for warmly receiving him and his supporters into the party. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving the shared goal of a better Ebonyi State, and urged all stakeholders to work together towards that common objective.

"I want to personally thank the Governor of the state, through the state Chairman of the party. Two of them behaves like twins. They behave alike. They have large heart , very accommodating, very sincere to whatever they are doing and that's one of the reasons why some of us said no, we cannot afford to be outside this game because when your leader is doing what is expected of him, like i said before, what the governor have done in less than one year surpasses what many Governors did in four years. And the chairman also has been a wonderful person. We have only come to give support. We're not coming to complete with anybody. We're not coming to look for anybody's position. We've just come to support to move the state forward.

"My defection sends ripples through Ebonyi State's political landscape, it remains to be seen how this my move will impact the upcoming elections and the overall dynamics of the state's governance.

"Am watching to see how this development will shape the political landscape in the state in the days and months ahead"

Why receiving decampees, the state party Chairman, Chief Staley Okoro Emegha echoed his support for a one-party system in Ebonyi State, arguing that a unified political front would foster stability, continuity, and accelerated development. He called for all politicians and citizens to set aside their differences and focus on building a stronger, more prosperous future for the state.

Chief Emegha who stated  that the decampees would be accommodated in the affairs of the Party and the State noted that the Party would continue to receive those who want to join the APC for a united and prosperous State.

Ebonyi APC boss enjoined his members to allow any opposition Party member who wishes to join the Party to do, noting that APC is large enough to accommodate all.

'"Do not restrict people from coming to APC, don't segregate. Tell them let everybody come let us come together. The house is more than enough to carry all of us", he stated.

He was accompanyed by Ishielu Local Government Chairman of APC, Hon. Ikechukwu Abba, State woman leader, Mrs Queendaline Nwigwe, State Ex-officio, Chief Ikechukwu Nweke, local Government APC secretary,  Mr Christian Aleke among others.
