According to the party, the decision 17 member State working committee of the party to zone the position to Onicha was hinged principle of equity and fair play which is also in line with the recent pronoucement of the state Governor, who is the leader of the party in the state that the position be zoned to Onicha and as such, the party is totally in support of the stand.

Speaking further, shortly after reading the communique, the state Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, emphasized that the party's decision was born out of need for equity, fair play and social justice which most leaders of the party has been beneficiaries, to continue to thrive in the state and in total solidarity and support to the decision of the leader of party in the state, His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who recently, asked that the Senatorial seat be zoned to Onicha Local Government Area.

"Today, the state working committe of the party held our end of the year meeting. We deliberated on a number of issues in the party such as the time table for the conduct of bye election in Ebonyi South Senatorial zone as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having declared the Senatorial seat vacant following the resignation of the former senator, Engr David Umahi, now the Minister of Works. And based on INEC timetable, the election is scheduled for February and they is need for primary election because this a fresh election, a purely delegate election. So, it is necessary for us to have a position as a party for us to know that, this is the direction for which we can follow to win the election. Above all, we've been waiting to see the body language of our leader, the Governor, and I believe strongly that for him to have come out and make a pronouncement as regards the Senatorial seat means that he has consulted widely because, he is somebody that see more than all of us. He wouldn't want us to loose the election to the opposition party, being election our party has won before. So, as such, we are standing by him because he has shown competence in implementing the manifesto of our party. We have analyzed it critically and have seen reason to support a candidate from Onicha Local Government Area. You know very that Onicha did not give us enough votes in the last election to deserve such high position but because of the decision of the Governor to carry all parts of the state along in both appointive and elective position in his Government, he feels very strongly that Onicha should have a fair share of representation, because among the five local Government in Ebonyi South, Onicha is only one without any position and as such, we have no option than to support the decision because it is a well thought out decision.

"There's no going back on this. Anybody that feels otherwise, should wait, there are still a lot of opportunities coming up in the party. We're not bothered about anyone who may wish to go against the decision or advice of the party, but know that it is purely a delegate election", he concluded.
