State Police; Solution To Nigeria's Growing Security Challenges -- Gov. Nwifuru

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi state has again joined the calls for establishment of State Police, positing such establishment will help curb the growing security challenges in the country.


The Governor revealed this on Wednesday in his office while playing host the new Assistant Inspector of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umahia, Abia state, AIG Kanayo Izuegbu, who was on a familiarization visit to the state command. 

Nwifuru emphasized that officers familiar with local norms, traditions, and environment would be better positioned to provide effective security services. He dispelled concerns about potential conflict between state and federal policing structures, stating that the constitution could be amended to clearly define their respective jurisdictions.


The governor further upheld the notion that the introduction of state policing would help address manpower deficits in the Nigeria Police Force and as well curb the growing security challenges facing the nation. He described the AIG’s visit as apt and timely, and pledged continued partnership with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to ensure the adequate security of lives and properties across Ebonyi State.


He commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the state for their outstanding service. The governor specifically lauded the police force in Ebonyi State especially in the area of professionalism in carrying out investigations, public relations, and tactical operations.


He assured the AIG of  his administration:s  continued support and partnership to better secure the state.


Earlier, AIG Uzuegbu commended the police officers serving in Ebonyi State on tactfulness and professional conduct in the discharge of their duties. He attributed the commendable achievements of the police force in the state to the unwavering support of Governor Nwifuru’s administration. According to the AIG, the enabling environment provided by the state government has been instrumental in enhancing the operational efficiency of the police and maintaining relative peace across the state.
He thanked the governor for his relentless efforts in combating crime, his consistent assistance to the police force, and his harmonious working relationship with security agencies. AIG Uzuegbu also noted that the security-friendly atmosphere established under the current administration has made Ebonyi State more attractive to investors.

AIG Uzuegbu was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Adaku Uche-anya, alongside other high-ranking police officers.
