Afikpo Council Chair Gives Succour To Indigent Patient: Offset Her Medical Bills

The masses do not need rocket science to discern a leader who is truly welfarist in his approach to leadership. They know him and measure him by his actions. This is apt of the Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government, Hon Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam who on assumption of office anchored his grassroot governance of the good people of Afikpo on welfarism. The zest is breathtaking as the Executive Chairman has recorded another proof of his welfarist ideology thereby earning a locus classicus in the history of the LGA.

It was uhuru for the beneficiary of Hon. Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam's welfarism as the Management and Staff of Centre of Hope Hospital, Afikpo as well as Patients were overwhelmed with joy on Thursday,18th May 2023 when the Executive Chairman cleared the hospital bill of one Miss Uzoamaka Uro,an indigent patient whose bill amounted  to Six Hundred  and fifty Six Thousand, Five Hundred Naira(N656,500.00) as at May 2023.

The patient who in the year 2022 had a major operation that nearly claimed her life, was discharged in the Month of December 2022, but was stranded for months in the Hospital due to lack of funds to settle her  bills.

It is becoming a worrisome situation that so many patients find it difficult to clear their medical bills, largely, due to the harsh economic situation in the Country. That was the exact scenario which Miss Uzoamaka Uro, who hails from Amuzu Mgbom in Afikpo Local Government Area, found herself as she spent extra 5 Months in  the Hospital even after being discharged.

By twist of providence, the Executive Chairman  who visited the Hospital with other Council Officials to have an exhaustive discussion with the Hospital Management on National Health Insurance Scheme, was briefed on the pathetic situation of the stranded patient and was moved with compassion. He ordered for her immediate release as he cleared her outstanding medical bills of N656,500.00 and further gave her N50,000.00 for her upkeep at home.

The excited patient who narrated her ordeal, thanked the Council Chairman for coming to her aid, adding that it was only God that moved the Council Chairman to visit the Hospital that day.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of Centre of Hope, Hospital Afikpo, Professor Egbunike appreciated Hon. Ibiam for providing succour to the less privileged in the Society through his many humanitarian interventions and prayed God to continue to bless him immensely and uplift him to greater political and leadership heights in the nearest future.

Hon. Ibiam had gained renown for the prowess on which he drives the narrative in grassroot administration since his inauguration as the Executive Chairman of Afikpo LGA. He says that the good things which the masses of Afikpo applaud him for are just tip of the iceberg of the things to expect because of his avowal to leave Afikpo LGA better than he met it.
