Jubilation As Ebonyi Community Gets New Town Union Leadership


It was a moment of Jubilation in Ebonyi state as Okposi Okwu Development Union(OODU) holds its town union election to elect new National Executives from all the blocs that made up the  union to pilot the affairs of the Community.

The town union election which was held on Saturday,22nd January,2022 at its ancenstrial home,``Oye Okwu" in Okposi Okwu Community of Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state was witnessed by stakeholders from the Community including the traditional ruler,the Development Centre Cordinator,the Council Chairman of Ohaozara, Commissioner for local Government and Chieftaincy Matters among others  who came from within and outside the state to ensure the success  of the election.

At the end of the election,High Chief John Mgbana Osi emerged as the newly elected President General of Okposi Okwu Development Union with other executive members who were elected alongside with him to serve for a tenure of four years before another election.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Osi  appreciated God for giving them the opportunity to serve the Community and also commended the governor of Ebonyi state,Engr.Apostle David Umahi for lifting ban for the town union election to hold and the overwhelming infrastructural development of Ebonyi state.

He therefore solicited for the support of the entire Community in order to carry out their duties effectively saying that leadership is nothing without followers adding that the people need to be united in order to transform the Community and make the progress that is expected of them. 

 "I want to thank God,the creator of the whole universe,the giver of wisdom,the greatest leader.We are thanking him for giving this opportunity to serve.I also using this opportunity to thank the governor,Engr.Chief David Umahi who lifted the ban on our union.We pray God to bless him.I want to appreciate the Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the chairman of the LGA, Development Centre Cordinator and the election transition committee, stakeholders for their diligence since yesterday.

"We need your support.Leadership is nothing without the followers and I am very sure looking at the faces of everybody present here and those that didn't come, we shall get your full support.And also,unbehalf of other elected members, that we will do our ought most.We are going to do much more in our community.

"For me, this is a momentous occasion.This is a day by the grace of God,we shall continue to remember.I pray God that this marks the beginning of new era;we will be able to get our people together and transform our community for the better .I want to let you know we have faced serious challenges as a community and first and foremost is Unity, that is the most important one.We need to be united to make the progress we are expected to make.

"I know people are expecting much from us in terms of unifying our community.If you are in doubt, these new group will make the palace,they king the pinnacle of authority in our community .We shall put all that happened in the past behind and move forward.

Chief Osi further stated that as part of his programmes and policies,a day will be set aside to respect and remember our heroes both in the past and present who sacrificed their lives for the welfare and existence of  Okposi Okwu Community.

"We shall begin to respect our past leaders,those who sacrificed their lives  to establish this beautiful land that we all enjoy.As a way of creating unity,we shall set a day out when will recognize "Okposi Okwu heroes past". People like Uneke Ocha,Ogbuefi,Nwuna,Okparoke,Aja Ekpechu,Ajanwachukwu,Enechi Ekuma11, amongst others.

If we don't respect  and remember our heroes in the past,how will the present leadership be encouraged to carryout their duties.We Shall also have the living saint day, those that are still alive and are already contributing for the welfare and development of Okposi Okwu.These are some of the ways and many others that will help us  to create that unity.
"After creating unity,the role ahead of us is very big,we are going to transform the leadership of OODU to be very good.We don't have light coupled with insecurity; these are some of the things we are going to face.We need your full corporation, your full support and to respond whenever you are called upon.
On her part,the Chairman of Ohaozara local Government area,Hon.Mrs.Nkechinyere Ihioku expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the town union election saying that governor Umahi has laid the foundation of peace across the state which has resulted in the infrastructural development in the state.The council chairman who was represented by Hon.Nwani Odi Barry charged the newly elected executives to do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed on them by working together in unity.

"I want to appreciate our peace loving governor.If not because of his peaceful disposition,i don't think there will be peace here.He came to Ebonyi with peace and have shown Okposi Okwu peace.There is no other peaceful place like Okposi Okwu,i thank you all for that.
 "I also  want to commend  the electoral committee members, DC Cordinator,the Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Matters among  others for the satisfactory election.

Also speaking,the former Secretary General of Okposi Okwu Development Union, Elder Omoke Nweze Njoku appreciated God and everybody for their support towards the success of the election noting that what the community expected from them has been accomplished to the glory of God.He lauded the governor for his commitment and  benevolence as well as the opportunity to conduct the election.

"I want to commend the governor of Ebonyi state,Engr.Apostle David Umahi for giving us the opportunity and the enabling environment  to conduct a successful election like this.

"I will still continue to serve whenever the need arises.I am happy we have achieved this great fit,and I equally want you all  to extend  the same  support to  the new executives for the overall development of our Community.

The Development Centre Cordinator of Anuagata Development Centre, Comrade Uzor Tochukwu Okorie said he is convinced that the new National Executives will do beyond our expectations and take the Community to a greater height urging the community  to give them full support the needed to deliver in this mandate.
