ALGON Calls For Arrest, Prosecution Of Akaeze Violent Attackers

The Association of Local government of Nigeria (ALGON), Ebonyi state chapter has condemned in strong terms the recent violent attack unleashed on the people of Akaeze in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state leading to the destruction of Executive chairman’s house and that of others.

ALGON also condemned in its entirety the crude and indescent manner the youths of the area took laws into their hands and embarked on wanton destruction of lives and property of monumental values in the name of protest.


In a statement released to the press by the ALGON Chairman, Ebonyi state chapter, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku called on the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastard acts are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.


Princess Iyioku described the crisis as unnecessary and wondered why people should throw caution to the wind and deploy violence to secure cheap political points which is an ill wind that blows good to nobody.


She pointed out that it is barbaric and disgusting on how enemies of progress could take to violence to settle scores thereby wasting a lot of resources and retard progress and urged them to have a rethink and turn a new leaf to avoid such ugly trend repeating itself.


ALGON said it is worried on the alarming rate of violence and crisis in their communities in the recent times orchestrated by some unscrupulous elements who take to arms at a slightest provocation rather than seek for peaceful resolution and demanded an immediate end to such, warning of spiral effect if not stopped.


While calling for proactive steps by security agencies to curtail the ability of the perpetrators and their possible sponsors to hit their target adding that there can never be meaningful development where violence and crisis take centre stage.


The Association also frowned at the manner Operatives of the EbubeAgu security Network Ivo Local Government Area tortured the suspected criminal which led to his death and called for reorientation of members of the outfit to ensure that such an act does not occure again in any part of the state.


Princess Iyioku also called on the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the EbubeAgu Security operatives in Ivo Local government area that carried out the act and ensure that justice prevails.


She advised the people of the area to remain calm as the state government and security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that those behind the violent attacks and destruction of people’s properties are made to face the law.
