The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Dr. Chukwu Joseph Chukwuemeka, said on Wednesday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) only works with the registered political parties and stands for transparency in every election in the country.

Chukwuemeka who said the commission is saddled with the responsibility to ensure a conduct of free, fair and credible election, pledged that, his office will be open at the due time to be witnessed by everybody.
He noted that the commission also monitors campaigns of political patties to ensure sanity in the system.
Emphasizing more on deregistration of some political parties, the Commissioner maintained that INEC will always go by the court rulings, disclosing that, about 18 political parties were fully confirmed registered and have the chance to participate in every election.
"In line with the judiciary rule, two weeks ago, we have only 18 political parties for now but others were deregistered.
"We stand by the rule of the law, so any other political party we don't know but the one recognized by the Constitution - the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is the one will go at this point in time," he said.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also urged people especially the key players in politics to see election as brotherly play.
“We should at all times avoid politics of rancor and acrimony, rather be peaceful in all political system,” Chukwuemeka advised.
He added: "Political party is individual choice. If you like joining one thousand political parties that depends on you. If you look at here you see the 18 registered political parties and those deregistered. For now, we have 18 registered political parties and they are opened for any politicians.
"Election in Nigeria, I just watch one video in Chad, either the President or whoever, is going on campaign.
"Election should be made like a friendly match, a brother and sister games so that when you see me tomorrow, we will be like others. It's not a do or die affair. It shouldn't be a must do thing. If it happened that I'm popular enough to contest, I can contest. It's the masses - the electorate who will vote a candidate of their interest into office.
"If they want the party 'A', 'B' or 'C', they should vote according to their choice. But whatever party any politician represents, should help in promoting the good image of this country, the electoral act and the image of Independent National Electoral Commission."
